If you are kicking yourself for not booking that Egypt trip last year, and you’re a little nervous to cruise the Nile now, perhaps you can at least satisfy part of your Egyptian craving by making a trip to Atlanta.
That’s right, get your Pharoah Fix right here in the USA.
The Emory Conference Center Hotel in Atlanta is offering a special fun getaway this summer priced from only $119 a guest room, per night.
The special Wrap Up Your Summer Package includes a well-appointed guestroom where up to two children 18 and under stay for free when sharing the room with an adult; full use of the hotel’s Health Club and swimming pools, complimentary parking; as well as complimentary access to the Emory Blomeyer Fitness Center.
But that’s not the really cool part. In addition to enjoying all the fun things at the hotel, guests will receive one complimentary ticket per guest, up to four tickets, to the famous Michael C. Carlos Museum on the grounds of Emory University. The museum features the largest collection of Ancient Egyptian Mummies in the Southeast, as well as other ancient treasures.
What will you see?
Guests will enjoy seeing the collection of Ancient Egyptian and Nubian antiquities. The exhibition covers the full spectrum of Nile Valley civilization, from the earliest Prehistoric times, to the period of Roman domination. At the core of the collection are the artifacts acquired by Emory professor William Shelton, who traveled to Egypt in 1920.
Over the years, the collection has expanded significantly, beginning in 1999 with the purchase of Egyptian antiquities from a small, private museum in Niagara Falls, Canada. According to the museum website, the objects from the Niagara Falls Museum had been purchased in Egypt during the early 1860s, and include 10 mummies, nine coffins, and a variety of other artifacts. The Niagara collection consists primarily of funerary material from the 21st Dynasty (ca. 1070–946 BC) to the Roman Period (ca. 31 BC–395 AD), a time of great achievement in the funerary arts.
Stay in the Emory Forest
The Emory Conference Center Hotel, which is owned by Emory University and managed by Crestline Hotels & Resorts, is nestled in the Emory Forest, yet it’s only minutes from Atlanta’s major attractions and nightlife. What’s more, guests will enjoy easy access to Fernbank Museum and Planetarium, the Georgia Aquarium, Turner Stadium, home of the Atlanta Braves, and all the exciting stuff Atlanta has to offer. In addition to the mummies, of course.

Sure, it’s not the Nile, but it’s exquisitely Egypt with a Southern flair.

Very cool. Wondering if this is a traveling exhibit or how long it will be in Atlanta. Definitely would be a good trip in the fall when things are a bit cooler.
